The dying hours of the past millenium dealt a severe blow to Millat-e-Islam. Allah - Subhanabu willed to take away from amongst us our beloved leader Maulana Abu Hasan 'Ali Miyan' in whom was rolled up several unique qualities; perspicacity of history, literary merit par excellence, humane at heart, intellectual vision coupled with humility and modesty and above all keen desire to spread 'Payame Insaniyaat' in the light of Quraanic message and traditions of the Prophet Mohammed (S.A.V.). The end of the illustrious life was also glorious - every Muslim would aspire of such 'Anjaam' - being Friday of the month of Ramdaan and just before Zohar time while listening to sonorous sounds of the Divine Revelations. The creator ordained such Anjam, as if to confirm the piety of Maulana Ali Miyan. It is difficult to fill the void created in Millat-e-Islam by his absence. Maulana Ali Miyan has left the large legacy of his writings which will illumine the path of many who want to serve the cause of Islam and Insaniyaat. Therefore, mortal frame of Maulana Ali Miyan is no longer with us; he will continue to live with us for long time to come.

Maulana, as the President of "All India Muslim Personal Law Board" nearly for two decades steered the Board during the most turbulent times with his guidance and sagacious advice. I on personal level had occasions to inter act with him as the member of the working committee of the Board and consider myself fortunate to experience his warmth and hospitality on number of occasions.

The loss, one can imagine, is more keenly felt by the kith and kin of Maulana. I take this opportunity to convey my sincere condolensces to them and pray to Allah Sabhanhu for Magferat. May Maulana's soul achieve elevation and highest position in Jannat-e-Firdaus.

Dr.C P. Habeeb Rahman.

It was with shock that I came to know the sudden demise of Alimia at Raebareli. Though Maulana had recovered from his acute illness earlier, this unexpected demise is something which keeps all of us in great grief. Alimia struggled all his lifetime with dedication commitment and utmost taqwa in the cause of Islam. His scholarly contribution and his personality is a great lm to the whole mankind.

At this instance we can only pray Almighty to grant peace for him and to give courage and fortitude to face the challenges. I understand the deep responsibility thrown to you now, and I pray Almighty Allah to grant you sufficient fortitude to face the changing situations.

Please convey my condolences to the bereaved family members. May Almighty Allah help us with Infinite mercy

Atal Bihari Vajpayee (Prime Minister of India)

I am deeply grieved to know that Maulana Abut Hasan Ali Nadvi, one of the world's greatest Islamic scholars in modern times, passed away today. He was an intellectual giant who was highly respected by Muslims and non- Muslims alike, both in India and abroad. He made an outstanding contribution to the spread of Islamic teachings through his scores of acclaimed books, countless discourses and, of course, the world-renowned seminary at Nadwa, near Lucknow, which he headed.

Ali Mian, as he was respectfully known, was also a great humanitarian. In his last message, he strongly condemned the hijacking of the Indian Airlines plane, stating, "Nobody having respect and love for human beings can ever approve of such action".

In the passing of Ali Mian, India and the Islamic community all over the world have lost a towering religious leader. I express my heartfelt condolences on this occasion and join my countrymen in mourning his demise.
